Eric has directed the entry, expansion, and real estate strategy of retailers in Hawai‘i, such as Starbucks Coffee, Jamba Juice, and Whole Foods.

Eric Tema’s responsibilities at MacNaughton involve conceptualizing creative elements of each new retail development. As a commercial real estate broker, Eric has helped direct the Hawai‘i entry, expansion, and real estate strategy of retailers such as Starbucks Coffee, Jamba Juice, PF Chang’s, Pier 1, OfficeMax, and Whole Foods. 

Eric joined MacNaughton in 1993 after three years with CB Commercial Hawai‘i, where he assisted with numerous retail projects and piloted leasing for Waikele Center, a 725,000 square-foot Power and Outlet shopping mall in Central O‘ahu. Eric assesses viability, works closely with architects and designers, drives anchor leasing, and manages tenant and residential relationships for MacNaughton commercial ventures, including Kukui Grove Marketplace (Kaua‘i), Maui Marketplace, Kona Commons (Hawai‘i Island), and on O‘ahu Stadium Marketplace, Kapolei Commons, Hokua residential and commercial, and Kailua Village Shops, a community-based food and specialty retail center that received “Project of the Year” honors from NAIOP’s Hawai‘i Chapter. 

Raised in Hawai‘i, Eric graduated from Punahou School and received his B.A. in Economics from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He serves on the board of Assets School, an institution for gifted and dyslexic children. An avid surfer and waterman, Eric has completed 13 Moloka‘i to O‘ahu outrigger canoe paddling world championship races, and also enjoys dirt biking, stand-up paddling, golfing, and spending time with his children.
